Toolkit: School Tribunals

Resources to Advocate for Children Facing a School Disciplinary Hearing

Before a school suspends or expels a child for over 10 days, the school must hold a School Disciplinary Hearing (sometimes called a Tribunal). These tools are designed to help case workers, foster parents, and even attorneys, prepare to advocate for a child in a school tribunal hearing.

Georgia Appleseed’s FAIR (Fairness, Advocacy & Individualized Representation) project helps connect students in foster care with advocates and attorneys. While the Referral Form and School Tribunal Checklist are created specifically for advocates of children in foster care, most of the other tools will be helpful more generally.
